2 books by A.L.Herbert in the Mahalia Watkins Soul Food Mystery serie

I have just finished reading: Murder with Fried Chicken and Waffles and Murder with Macaroni and Cheese. ( both in the series: Mahalia Watkins Soul Food Mystery) and both borrowed on ereolen global

The recurrent persons in the novels are: Halia Watkins - owner of Mahalia's Sweet Tea - a very fine soul food restaurant in Maryland.
Wavonne - Halias cousin - whom Halia and Halias mother (Momma Celia) has tried to educate/foster.
Halia is busy with the cooking, the guests in the café and trying to keep track of Wavonne. Momma Celia is making the desserts and cakes and is busy trying to get  Halia married.

In both novels a murder takes place, and Halia solves the mysteries with the  help of Wavonne.

It has been fun reading novels, where the main caracters and most of the other persons in the stories are afro-americans. It makes for a somewhat different dialog, furthermore pepped up by Wavonnes language. The dialog is often funny and so is the interaction between the three main caracters,.

In the novels you will find recipes for soul food, some of the ingredients not so easily obtained in Denmark.

Recipes:
Double Crust Chicken Pot Pie
Celia's Chokolate Marshmallow Cake
Halia's Macaroni and Cheese
Halia's Double-Crust Chicken Potpie
Halia's All-Natural Margaritas
Halia's Country Grits and Sausage Casserole
Halia's House Cocktail
Halia's Sour Cream Cornbread
Halia's Extra Light and Fluffy Belgian Waffels
Halia's Sweet Corn Casserole
Halia'S Fried Chicken Wings
Celia's Banana Pudding

At present I think there is only two books in the series.

Reading the books I learned another expression for "selling sand in Sahara": Selling matches in hell 😈
