Dance of Death by Helen McCloy

Image
Dance of Death by Helen McCloy I received this e-book from Crime Classics via NetGalley. It is published in the series from Agora Books called Uncrowned Queens of Crime.  It’s very nice to get to know other writers who have written classic crimes, and I have thus been inspired to read authors unknown to me before. In this novel a young debutante is found dead buried in snow. Although she is covered in snow her body temperature is high and the cause of death resembles a heat stroke.  It is not a heat stroke but she has been poisoned with an overdose of a diet drug.   In charge of the investigation is Inspector Foyle with the help of psychiatrist Dr Basil Willing. Foyle and Willing have different ways of solving cases, and Willing tries to convince Foyle about the value of psychology in criminal investigation. He states that a blunder is the one form of clue a criminal can neither remove, conceal nor destroy - the one clue that is entirely beyond his conscious c...

Food from the Garden - Summer Salad and Spinach in Cream Sauce

Image
The garden is full of vegetables now, so I made  summer salad: 100 g Danish smoked cheese from Funen 1 Dl creme fraiche 18% ½ cucumber, diced (remove the seeds first) radishes sliced/diced chives The tomatoes are not from the  garden. They are not ripe yet, but they will soon be. Some are slightly red now. These are a gift from  COOP: New gift for you This message appeared in my Coop-app, and it turned out to be a tray of tomatoes. Nice! The New Zealand Spinach is fine now, and I made butter toasted white bread with spinach in cream sauce. I let the spinach simmer for 5 minutes with the water sticking to the leaves (after having rinsed them  three times in water). Drain any remaining water and pour in a splash of whipping cream and a sprinkle of salt. Let cook until the cream thickens, and meanwhile make the butter toast. New Zealand spinach has the advantage that it doesn't contain oxalic acid , and it sows itself willingly in the gard...

Libby and Jenny Colgan

Image
Overdrive has made a new  Loan / reading app called Libby. I have tested it with two books by   Jenny Colgan  in the series: Summer Seaside Kitchen. The first novel is called: The Cafe by the Sea. The main character, Flora has several years ago fled the island of Mure and lives in London, where she works and has a crush on her boss, Joel. She has absolutely no plans of returning to the little Scottish island, but one of their clients (the billionaire Colton) has great plans for the island, so Flora is forced to return. I have read a lot of Jenny Colgan's novels. She writes  romantic, funny, feel-good novels, and she does it very well. So if you like the genre I can really recommend reading her books. The second book in the series is called: The Endless Beach. Life on the island Mure continues with the characters from the first novel. One of the persons - the Syrian refugee, Saif is doctor on the island. He is the main character in a short story:  A V...

Book Catalogue - App

Image
As I read a lot I have great use of the Book Catalogue App on my mobile to keep track of the books I have read. I find it very smart. You can enter your own books, and if you lend them to someone you can make a note. It is also possible to have different bookshelves. E.g. one with your own books, e-books, or books you have borrowed in the library, or whatever you find useful.. It is easy to enter new books . You can scan the barcode on the book or enter ISBN-number. You can search the internet or add manually. There are a lot of other features as well. Right now I am going to read the fourth novel in the Aurora Teagarden series. This is how it looks in Book catalogue on my mobile: When you choose the book in the list, you can see facts about the book, and a description of the story. It is free to use, but it is possible to make a donation to the developer.
