Garage Sale Find

Image
Yesterday my daughter gave me this antique mangle press for my dolls house. A find from a garage sale. I think it is a real gem as I never before have seen the like in a dolls house. I have seen them made of wood but never cast iron. A lovely gift I cherish very much.

Dolls House - Desk

Image
Most of my dolls house furniture is bought at Søstrene Grene or Netto , the desk as well . At the moment dolls house furniture is for sale at Netto . Unfortunately they did not have the kitchen sink I saw in the advertisement. I could have used it! The pipe and the matchbox is from Sweden - hence the color of the matchbox.   I made the newspapers from an advert for Danish stamps . It is from a series made in 2008 called  the 20th Century: The envelope and card are from free printables found on the internet. There are quite a lot to be found. You also find lots of dolls house books you can make yourself. Go to Pinterest and  search : miniature printables free, then there are lots to choose among. Danish

Dolls House - Dressmaker's Dummy

Image
This dressmaker's dummy is from a vacation in Paris in 2008. I found it in a little shop not far from Sacre Coeur. For all I know it might not be made in France - but could as well come from China, but I associate it with Paris and fond memories together with children and grandchildren. I always shoot a lot of photos on vacations. Once when you used film and had to have the pictures developed, you had to restrict yourself. Now however you can take lots and lots of pictures and sort and throw away later. The latter is sometimes rather difficult. Some of my favorite photos from Paris 2008: Detail from a well in Paris Detail from a door, Notre Dame Detail from a fountain at Sacre Coeur Detail from a door, Sacre Coeur The Eiffel Tower Danish

Dolls House - Grindstone

Image
This miniature grindstone is bought in Gotland, where we visited the museum of Kettelvik . It is an open air museum where you can learn about the history of stone craft. The grindstone is made of sandstone (Burgvik-sandstone) which since time immemorial has been used to sharpen knives, scythes and other tools. The stone was formed 400 million years ago by fine grains of sand and chalk in what at the time was a tropical sea. The sandstone is also used for decorating churches, castles and manors, and also for every day use e.g. troughs. You find the museum by following the beautiful coastal road, Kettelviksvägen in the direction of Hoburg. In Hoburg is a sea stack (rauke )called Hoburgsgubben . Dolls House - Garden Furniture

Image
The garden furniture for the dolls house is bought on a vacation in Brazil in 2006. I found them at  Mercado Popular in Montes Claros. They are quite simple to make with to types of copper wire. This is a picture from the market: Mercado Popular. A funny place with everything from meat, vegetables, a lot of dusty old things, clothes to kitchen utensils. Some of my very best cooking spoons are bought here. Mercado Popular in Montes Claros And a few other pictures from the vacation. It is interesting the way colors vary from country to country. Church in Montes Claros Monkey at the airport in Montes Claros The fence is also from Montes Claros. Chosen for its lovely color and shape.   Danish

Dolls House - Saucepan

Image
This handmade enameled saucepan is from  a  trip to Scotland in 1997. It is bought in A World in Miniature in Oban, Argyll. David and Vanessa Kilpatrick started to collect miniatures in 1983. When we visited ,there were more than 50 displays in the exhibition. The museum is no longer there. The collection has passed to Bob Gault and can now be visited at : A World in Miniature Museum, Houghton Hall Garden Center, Houghton, Carlisle It was amazing to see how detailed the objects were. Some pieces of furniture had taken more than 1000 hours to make. The scale is 1:12. It is possible to see some of the exhibition by clicking on this    link , but it is definitely worth seeing in real life. A nostalgic excerpt from the diary: Danish
