Image

Mucha and Czechoslovakia's først postal stamps

Image
Stamp designed by Mucha When Czechoslovakia gained independence after World War I, It was Mucha who designed the country's first postal stamps. The motive was  Hradčany Castle. We have been to Prague a couple of times and visited the castle. One year (1991) I bought pop up cards as a souvenir.  This one depicts the castle and is from my diary: Pop up card, Hradčany Castle Czechoslovakia Post has also issued a stamp to commemorate Mucha and the country's first stamps. The pictures of the stamps are from Colnect . Colnect is a sort of wiki for collectors, where you can manage your collection and at the same time automatically compare your swap lists with other collectors. Danish

Crime Novels and Stamps

Image
When you both like crime novels and stamp it is nice when it is combined. In 2016 Royal Mail issued 6 stamps to honor  Agatha Christie. They were issued to mark the centenary for the  first Hercule Poirot story, as well as the 40th anniversary of Christie's death. Murder in the Orient Express  A Murder is Announced And Then There Were None The Body in the Library The Murder of Robert Ackroyd The Mysterious Affair of Styles It is somewhat peculiar that while the amount of snail-mail is declining the amount of issued stamps is increasing. Some countries issue several hundred a year. Among these are Great Britain, but they are also eminent stamp makers. This series  has a lot of fine hidden clues: faces, shadows, skulls and then  some in microtext, or in thermochromic ink, or only visible under an ultra-violet light The pictures on this page is copied from   Colnect . It is my favorite catalog  on the internet .On this...

Hobby - Stamps

Image
I have collected stamps more than 50 years now, and I received a letter with stamps from a collector from Poland. It contained about 100 stamps from  several countries. It must apparently have looked suspicious, because it had been opened by the Danish custom: I guess that is all very well, but when they could see it only contained stamps, I think it would have been easy to figure out the sharpest thing would not be to put tape all over the stamps on the envelope 😈 I use Colnect a lot. It is a community for collectors. I can really recommend it and I will tell more about it in future blogs. Danish
