Cornus mas |
A couple of days with warmer weather makes wonders in the garden. The Cornelian Cherry - Cornus mas - is absolutely wonderful right now, where thousands of flowers lights up and brightens the day.
Despite the name it has nothing to do with cherries, but it gets little oblong red berries which are edible, just not directly from the bush, as they are very acid. They can be used in juice or jam. I tried it one year, but I don't think it is ever going to be a great hit in this house.
The February Daphne - Daphne mezereum - is also blooming now. This is however
not edible. The berries are poisonous.
