Mr. Vertigo by Paul Auster
Mr. Vertigo by Paul Auster.
The novel starts in the 1920's America. Walt, a 9-year orphaned street urchin, is saved from the streets by Master Yehudi. He wants to learn the boy to fly and walk on water. It is a very tough training and Walt tries to run away several times. He doesn't succeed, but he learns to levitate. We follow Walts ups and downs throughout life until he at the age of 76 writes the story of his life. It is a thrilling, sometimes moving and grim story, which I had almost abandoned reading, when I discovered it was about a boy who could fly. I am glad I didn't. It is an adventurous tour de force leading us through America in different periods of time.
