Heartnuts and Chestnuts






I got the Heartnut tree  5-6 years ago, and it has blossomed and made small nuts, but they fell off when still small. This year it looks as if it is going to succeed in making ripe nuts.
The plant is from  Westergaards Planteskole
The species is  Japanese  Walnut (juglans ailanthifolia) . The nuts should be a little more difficult to clean than walnuts - in return they have a high content of antioxidants and can therefore be kept for several years


Right now there is a fantastic carpet under the chestnut tree. It has dropped all  catkins:
